Hiya,
I'm Rach and we adopted Gizmo, a 3.5 yr old male black & white spotty dog 4 weeks ago. He has settled in amazingly well, it's like he's always been here! He was obviously much loved & well looked after before, but they worked very long hours, he wasn't excercised enough and he was destructive. So far we haven't seen any sign of this, and he has been left a few times for a couple of hours - I must admit we started at 10 mins and worked up - just in case lol - but as I am at home all day & hubby works shifts there's no reason for him to be on his own much. We have an 8yr old son and he & Gizmo are becoming firm friends.
We have a couple of things that need working on, he 'mouths' quite a bit (though not with our son) but will stop usually with a firm no. Walking also needs a bit of work, although he has been much better since using a harness. He also needs to lose a little weight, but I'm sure all the excercise we are all now getting will help with that quite quickly!
I have been lurking and reading lots and lots of posts (and getting some great tips btw - thanks!) for the last week or so.... thought I would join in.
Well, so much for this being a 'quick' hello ha ha! Look forward to talking to you all.

Welcome. You will find he will be a lot less destructive with the extra exercise as Dalmatians do adore their naps and will sleep between long walks - which are also good for us so a bonus there. If you are concerned that he might revert to the odd bit of destruction you could try a crate - the bigger the better -plus it is somewhere for your new family member to go and hide when they want so peace and quiet. _________________ Sandie aka Donothing

Thanks for the welcome!
Dottymum2be, I bet you can't wait! I do have some pics but need to resize them before they will load, I will add some later.
We've seen no signs of any destructive tendencies, and when he's had enough of us all he just goes to bed. He spends alot of time asleep after walks, which means I have time to clean all the muddy pawprints off the floors & nose marks off the doors. |

welcome.
I've got Sam into a routine that means if I'm holding a towl when I let him in he has to sit down on the door mat and wait until I've cleaned his paws before he can go zooming off _________________ Love me - Love my pets |
