After having our house on the market for 3 years, we have suddenly sold it in a matter of 3 weeks! So, after 10 years in rural France, we are returning to the UK. This means that in about 2 months time me, him and the doggies will be homeless, jobless, stateless and probably penniless (as the French don't give you the dosh on the day of completion!!).

It's been fun living here but looking forward to the next stage of our lives. Currently looking to move to Derbyshire (but nothing yet certain). I am excited and terrified in equal proportions. We still have B & B guests up until the end of May so can't even start packing - and this is a 6 bedroom 4 storey house!! If I seem slightly madder than usual over the next few weeks, please be kind to me. Laughing Laughing

Congratulations and welcome home. You do know that Derbyshire isn't quite the same weather as southern France?

It does have the advantage of being nearer to Fred22 however!

Congratulations Maggi and good luck with the move. I'm not quite sure why you would want to leave France, but it will be nice to have you here. We come to Derbyshire quite often to paraglide. It's a lovely part of the world, although we do find it hard to find places to walk the dogs that are free of sheep.

Thanks everyone for your kind wishes. I do seem remember sheep featuring largely as a nuisance on dog walks - although here it is hunters and wild boar!! I don't know what the dogs will make of a new and different life, or even what we will make of it as I'm sure many things have changed since we were last resident. France is beautiful but economically too precarious for those who are not yet retired. All those lovely programmes about living abroad skip gently over the humungous cost of decent health care for example, and the eye watering administration. Nowhere is perfect and I'm going to miss so many things about our life here, not least the many friends we have made, but as I keep reminding people we are moving on not going back anywhere. Our next move - in another 10 years time - will hopefully be to Greece. I've always been full of wanderlust and my dogs always seem to take moving in their stride so looking forward to it all in a scared sort of way.

If anyone sees a homeless middle-aged couple sat by the roadside with 2 dalmatians and a cockatiel, please take pity on us. Laughing Laughing

Ooh, congratulations on the sale! Our phonebills will be less when Daisy and caper don't have to make international calls! Laughing

oh Welcome home Maggi and Family Very Happy
Hope the move goes smoothly and from my experience (moved around more times than I can remember with OH being in RAF) the dogs will be happy anywhere as long as they are with you Very Happy

Gill I'd forgotten that you were on the spot as it were. With you, Greg and Darren in place I should have lots of advice and tips.
