Congratulations to Jo Gates-Raw, whose Dalmatian puppy-'Wiglett' has just passed his Kennel Club Good Citizens Bronze award.

Not bad, considering he is 13 1/2 weeks old!!!

The assessor thinks this may the youngest puppy ever to pass the bronze!

Well done Jo and Wiglett!!

Best wishes,

Jabbadal

Training classes throughout the country can hold these kennel club good citizens awards which go up to gold, the actual test being taken by a kennel club approved assesor.
It's basic obedience that would make your dog into a 'good citizen'!! Including going through gates without barging past, walking sensibly on the lead etc.

There is more information on the Kennel Club website, including info on training classes that hold them and train for them.

http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/activities/good_citizen.html

It's a really good fun way of teaching your dog all the basics that will be useful throughout his/her lifetime.

Apparantly they ended up doing a 2 minute stay instead of the 1 minute one, at which point Wiglett went to sleep!!
(sounds like a good way of getting them to 'stay'!!!)

Well done Wiglett and Jo. I've added him to our growing list of clever Dals OK.

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Classes are really good, as they teach responsible ownership as well as basic good manners for the dog.
How dog keeping is covered by the Law is touched on too.
As the Kennel Club don't keep separate Breed lists, we started our own for anyone to add to, when their Dalmatian passes any Tests.
At present on my list 96 have passed at BRONZE level.
30 of these have gone on to pass their SILVER.
Of these SILVER passes, 25 have persevered and passed their GOLD tests.
Who says Dalmatians are stupid!!!!!
If you can add to our list with any Dals you have owned or if you have Dalmatian owning friends who have passed any of the Tests, let me know. There are bound to be more out there.

My E Mail is
lizdals@tiscali.co.uk

If you look under Ownership at the top of the page, details of the KC Good Citizen Classes are given.

Annoyed at being beaten to it, by her litter brother(Wiglett!!),
I can proudly now say that my Pepper has passed her bronze award today, at a very old 4 1/2 months!!

We will have to hurry and see if we can get the silver before Wiglett now!!

Well done to Pepper and Lou.
Wiglett's learning curve has reached a plateau at the moment, he is too interested in his dangly bits to concentrate!
see you at the finishing line...........
