Don't forget to add to the list of obedience, agility, tracking etc. the Carriage Dog Trials, it is not necessary to have a horse & carriage just team up with someone who has. It's a great way to have a really fit dog!
With regard to showing, don't forget to join your local Ringcraft Club, here there will be plenty of people who will take the time and trouble to explain to you all about Junior Warrants and CC's (Challenge Certificates) as well as helping you to fill in your entry forms.
Most of all, have fun...... |

With regards to late entries, I believe that we were the 'late' entries and I know the show in question. I do still have the proof of posting in my 'open' show coat pocket and can assure everybody it was not a phone call on the morning of the show. When entering open shows we always ask for a proof of posting and enclose a stamped addressed envelope, belts and braces approach after travelling to Newark for an open show to find our entry had not been received, champ shows are always done online where possible.
As for the Junior Warrant, at open show level there are two ways of gaining your 1 point. If your dog wins a class which has a minimum of 3 dogs entered and subsequently shown, then your dog has won 1 point. If however your dog is in a class that had less than 3 dogs entered, but there are more than one breed classes and the total number of dogs entered and subsequently shown is three or more, if your dog goes on to be best of breed then again your dog has won 1 point. You can only claim this point for best of breed if your dog won no other points during breed judging.
Now we come to the show certificate of merit where your dog is awarded 1 point for every Best of Breed awarded at open shows, then 4 points for group 1, 3 points for group 2, 2 points for group 3 and 1 point for group 4. Points are also awarded for Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show, but off the top of my head I can't remember them. A dog needs to get to 25 points to be able to claim a show certificate of merit with so many points (again not sure off the top of my head) gained in group awards. |

I will get the hang of this point thing yet.
Actually you were not the late entry I was thinking of, I will explain more next time we meet, and then I can get you to explain the points again - well I am blond. |
