Anyone in the Northwest know of some nice dog friendly walks in our area? we are getting pretty fed up with our local park.
We wouldn't mind wooded areas or just open fields that we are allowed on.
Don't mind driving to a good spot.

I can happliy recommned Formby Point near Southport. Shouldn't be to far for you to go and the woods and beaches are really nice.

Bit further to go, but the area around Rivington Pike on the West Pennine Moors is also good, there are woods and reservoirs in the valley and then if you climb up to the Pike you have the moors.

Thanks Jasper,
Its funny how I've forgotten where some of the nice walks are after living away from the Northwest for quite a while.
My family had a caravan at Formby many years ago and we loved it there, just hope the dogs don't catch any squirrels! Shocked

We all ought to meet up one weekend -we have been to Formby (which was nice but suprisingly busy considering the weather) and also along the coast a bit to Ainsdale (?) where you park on the beach which was excellent. Dogs love the beach as much as humans.

Last time I was at Rivington Pike I was doing a mountain bike course so look out for cyclists!

I shall have a think about some good walks in the North West and would be interested to hear of any others. Be nice to have a section in the forum for walks.

Its a shame the lakes is a bit far away, there are great areas there.High dam at finsthwaite, near newby bridge is great. There is a really big wooded area,a small lake and a big lake where the dogs can swim if they like.Alright if your making a day of it,having a look round nearby villages etc.

a meet at Formby or Ainsdale would be cracking idea. There seem to be a few organised walks cropping up and with spring on the way it's going to be an ideal time.

I would be interested in meeting up with others at Formby or Ainsdale Very Happy
I would just have to make sure we are not entered into a show first.
If anyone has a date in mind let me know asap.
Does anyone know of a good route? ie: start/finish points, Or should we just wing it? Wink

I have no date in mind but lets say early March 8th or 15th and hope we get a cracking day. As for routes, again I am no help but we could just wing it as you say. Suggestions invited.

Hi, I could do 8th March, but not 15th as we are at a show that day.
Let me know where and when to meet anyone who is interested.

Eighth of March is fine. If anyone else wants to make suggestions then please do. Mine is that I have been to both places one time each and had a better time at Ainsdale so that is preferred. Anytime you want, we will just walk along the beach till we have had enough and them turn back. Would rather keep out of the dunes as we nearly lost our Millie there -she just kept reappearing further and further away! As said though, if anyone else wants to propose different we are very flexible

8th of March is looking ok for me as well, not fussed as to where. Been to Formby plenty of times so perhaps Ainsdale would be a nice change.

Right, so Ainsdale it is. Does anyone want to suggest a time soon? If we can agree the details we can let others know
