Cassie recently slipped her collar by pulling backwards. I have noticed that both the dogs collars made by Rogz seem to loosen and had only tightened it a few days before. Needless to say both collars have gone into the bin and both are now wearing old ones. I am tempted to buy nice leather ones with buckles but both my dogs love water. Currently Alfie has a Spiffy Dog which is very good because it's so lightweight, and Cassie has a Red Dingo but I'm now really scared that these too will slip. I don't mind paying out for them if they're good. I think I would like one with a buckle. I know someone posted a pretty collar a while ago but I can't remember who! Anyone have any comments/advice please?

I was thinking along these lines

Kiri has an ordinary red buckle collar and Caper has a leather half check like this http://www.pet365.co.uk/products/Hamish-McBeth-Leather-Half-Check-Dog-Collar-Red.html It does not pull tight so doesn't choke but no way could he back out of it.

Mine both have the red dingo bucklebone collars which are adjustable, but I know what you mean, they can work loose with pulling so with Daisy on roads I also use a half check like Maggi but mine is nylon webbing type.

I use Ancol rolled leather buckle collars. They last for years, and this new colour doesn't 'bleed' when it gets wet, unlike previous ones (a dalmatian in the rain used to look as though its throat had been cut Shocked !).

Faith has a Leather collar with a stainless info tag that slips onto the collar.
She is not much of a waterdog, so have never had any problems with leather.

Megan has a Rogz collar, which has been fine, but I'm looking around at getting something else for Bodi, I don't know where to start though. At the moment she just has nylon ones from PAH. I like the fabric ones such as Rogz etc cos you can wash them easily.

Fantastic quality and you can just pop them in the washing machine.

I use my own. I love them as they are lightweight, strong and waterproof. I HATE it when the dogs go in water (or rain) and their collars take hours to dry, they are also very easy to clean which suits me well, lol.

I tried a martingale collar on Cooper but I really wasn't happy with it tightening, and I like his collar fitted a little loose so he can slip it if he gets stuck on anything.

I mostly use his harness when I have him on lead as he can slip his collar easily.

Mine have soft collars with the easy squeeze mechanism for releasing them, that is for my convenience but not theirs. I always use a leather half choke and the collar is only for looks and to hold their tag. However I think whatever collar /half choke you use the dog can still back out of you are not looking and it is slack. To stop that a harness is the only option.

yes we will have them at the Fun Day. One of the byproducts of thh Fun Day is that we as committee get stopped for advice. Peopll with dalmatians have seen it advertised on the website and just turn up. One of their regular questions is how do I stop my dog pulling.

At the Fun Day we said try one of these for the rst of the day. If it works buy it otherwise bring it back. No-one said here it is, it didn't work. What i like about it compared with some other harnesses is that you just unclip the lead when out for a walk and leave the harness on. Lottiensaf who bred Kisscass' Cassie use it for their dalmatians.
