My beautiful boy has never liked sitting down when travelling in the car. He has always stood up in the boot (safely secured behind a dog guard) and sniffed the air through a little gap in the window. I realise now that to allow him to do this for so many years (he is almost 11) has been a big mistake. He has now become unstable when travelling, but trying to get him to sit down is just a constant battle. He has to go to the vets on Christmas Eve to have his cruciate ligament repaired and I'm wondering how on earth I am going to get him there. I have been out and bought a harness for him today and my idea is to make him lie down before we set off and then secure him on a short lead to one of the luggage straps in the boot, so he cannot stand. This seems cruel, and the thought upsets me, but I don't know what else to do to prevent him stumbling and making matters worse. Any ideas or advice would be appreciated.
