Joint Dalmatian Clubs 2011 Judged by Lady McDonald of Sleat & Mrs Shelagh Stevenson
Joint Dalmatian Club Show Stafford 19th Feb 2011

Dogs

It was a great privilege to be invited to judge dogs at the joint Dalmatian Club Championship show. Many thanks to all the exhibitors for the lovely entry, to the officers and committee for making it such an enjoyable and interesting day and finally to my stewards for all their hard work.
Temperaments and coat conditions have greatly improved since my last appointment – My main criticisms being long nails and hare feet. I also found some exhibits lacked bone and had rather feminine heads. I was delighted with my winners who portrayed all the qualities and sound movement so essential to the breed.

BITCHES

A very pleasing entry of 91 bitches making 104 entries for which I would like to thank the Exhibitors.
I considered the quality of the bitches to be generally very good. I found coats to be in good condition with little evidence of the dreaded ‘rash’. I feel that movement has improved since my last appointment and eye colour appears to be more consistently correct.
It was good to see the number of new puppies entered and wish them well in their show career.
I didn’t find there to be too great a variation in size and type and endeavoured to place those which, in my opinion, not only came closest to the breed standard but also displayed movement commensurate with the Dalmatian’s role as a carriage dog. I was particularly pleased with my principal winners which I considered to be first class representatives of the breed.
