South Wales 2004 Judged by Mrs M Cuthbertson
A warm welcome awaited with the promise of more settled weather.
Dalmatians were allocated a large, well prepared ring, for which I was grateful, as I was able to assess movement easily. Thanks to my two experienced Stewards Brenda and Malcolm Smith especially Brenda whose valiant efforts to keep paperwork dry during the rainfall towards the end of Limit Bitch Class gave the Ringsiders a chuckle. Also a big thank you to exhibitors for bringing your lovely dogs.

All were turned out and presented in good clean condition and temperaments in the ring were exemplary.

My overall impression was that there are some sound youngsters coming through and this can only bode well for the breed. Worryingly, there are a number of light eyes and short tails, set and carried high which does detract from the overall impression. Quality in the bitches shone through; unfortunately this meant some went home cardless.

Minor Puppy Dog (2,1a)

1st Stokes’s Elaridge Quincie. Very promising quality liver puppy of eight months in excellent condition. Good colour liver with complete pigment. Lovely head and expression, reachy neck into well laid shoulders. Strong round bone, tight feet, good body shape and level back. Well muscled hind quarters, tail set and carried correctly. Movement sound once settled.

Puppy Dog (3)

1st Carvell’s Timmy Willie with Lilal. Upstanding black. Well presented in tiptop condition. Even spotting on sparkling white. Well developed head with good pigment and dentition, nicely arched neck into well developed front. Strong bone and good feet. Well developed brisket, good length of back, strong loin and well muscled hind quarters. Good tail set. Once settled displayed strong steady movement for a youngster and this won him Best Puppy Dog and later Best Puppy in Breed.
2nd Ely’s Wintermine Commando. Eleven month old black spotted puppy. Well developed with strong bone. Well proportioned head with dark eyes and good dentition. Arched neck into good front assembly. Level topline held on the move. Well developed hind quarters.
3rd Parkin-Russell’s Spaclere Flash Gordon.

Junior Dog. (8,1a)

1st Richardson’s Mapplewell it Takes Two JW. Soundly constructed and ideally sized young black spotted male. Balanced, with good angulations. Well developed head, good ear carriage, correct dentition, kind expression. Good front, well off for bone, good feet with well rounded pads, clearly defined withers, good spring of rib and well rounded croup, well developed second thigh and strong hocks. Correct tail set carried well. Effortless movement with decent length of stride with good reach and drive. Lost out in the challenge due to coat condition.
2nd Cauldwell’s Gwencarodale Pop’s Pride. Another black spotted dog of good make and shape. Balanced with good angulations. Pleased in head with good ear carriage and dark eyes. Good front, plenty of substance, well muscled with good tone and well developed rear quarters. Tail carriage too high today.
3rd Hammett’s Bryedal Mayan.

Post Graduate Dog. (9,3a)

1st Saunder’s Imaginary Friend. Liver male of excellent quality. Powerfully built with plenty of substance. Well developed head with good pigment. Sound in front although carrying too much weight over shoulders. Deep chest with well sprung ribs, tidy elbows, strong over loin with well developed muscles over hind quarters. Covered the ground with ease.
2nd Bolt’s Buffrey Belleisimo at Fakenham. Young black male. Well presented in excellent condition. Plenty of substance. Good head proportions, good front assembly and well developed in chest with nicely sprung ribs and good depth of brisket. Still needs time to mature.
