BUBA 2004
Judge's Critique
Mrs J Richardson
I was delighted that on this, my first time awarding CC’s that there was such a lovely entry both numerically and in quality. Thank you to everyone who entered.
An overwhelming majority of exhibits were beautifully clean and well groomed. Many exhibits lacked muscle and condition losing the impression of a strong, active dog. Short days and busy lives just before Christmas may account for this. Some of my favourites appeared jaded and less than enthusiastic. While exuberance helps showmanship it doesn’t make the construction of a dog different but when an exhibit is presented all bunched up it does affect the overall impression. My final comment is connected to movement. On the third part of the triangle—coming towards the judge—many dogs were tugged inwards to the handler and this adversely affected the front movement of several dogs/bitches.
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the Dalmatians — ours is such a lovely breed and as one would expect, temperaments were exemplary. A couple of young bitches were a bit timid and I’m sure with some extra help to overcome their fears they will grow into “outgoing” adults. I was delighted with my main winners.
