Bath 2015 Judged by Mrs Shelagh Stevenson
It was a pleasure to judge the breed and thank you to all exhibitors who sought my opinion of their dogs and entered under me. The Dalmatian, having been bred for endurance, should have stamina and fitness without compromise to being over developed in body. Generally, all exhibits possessed these qualities together with others contained in the Breed Standard and this was my benchmark. I still found some dogs presenting with short upper arms resulting in straight fronts and restricted forward reach. This, in my opinion, seems to be a deep rooted problem for which there is no short term solution. On the positive side, temperaments was generally good and I did not see many poor coats. Regrettably there were many classes where some very worthwhile exhibits had to go cardless. The ring was an excellent size which gave each exhibitor an opportunity to display their strengths in movement.
