PAIGNTON CH SHOW

Dalmatians

I really enjoyed this assignment with the Dallys but found them quite challenging again. I had no problem finding winners but some of the placings took a bit of deliberation. I appreciate that it was extremely windy & noisy in our ring unsettling some & made allowance for it but was really concerned to have a few that actually backed off. This is something I have never experienced in the breed & hope it is not going to become a trend. Plenty of socialisation at an early age is most important. I do not expect automatons or robots & in fact much prefer dogs who are animated.
Something else that struck me was lack of correct angulation. A fairly common problem was poor fronts with little or no forechest & at the other end those that lacked turn to stifle & definition of the second thigh leaving them looking very stilted & not moving with the driving action expected of a running dog.

PD (3)

1 Stocks’ Nospar’s Shaded Lanson, 11 months of handy size & well balanced, skull flat & broad enough, decent front & shoulder, excellent topline & tailset, gentle turn to stifle, easy mover, shown in hard condition;
2 Christie’s Sophtspot Gold Dust, 6 months & understandably still quite raw, proportioned clean head of length with gentle stop, feet well knuckled, ribcage developing, level topline & turn to stifle;
3 Blackmore’s Dalens Storm Trooper.

1 Davey’s Elabri Encre Noir at Pirandal, 15 months & developing well, masculine in outlook without exaggeration, lovely well placed dark eye, strong neck down to straight forelimbs, knuckled feet, well ribbed up with good topline, tailset & carriage, turn to stifle, moved freely displaying some reach;
2 Donnelly’s Tamilanda Berry Ice Lilly, 16 months, very clean headed with length, decent eye & expression, round bone to straight forelimbs, ribs still to develop a bit more, some turn to stifle, free mover once concentrating;
3 Richardson’s Mapplewell Dynamite.

1 E Encre Noir at P;

2 Ellarby’s Daedalus Alfie Boe
, very useful for type with length to head & super dark eyes, straight front down to good feet, well ribbed up with good topline & tailset, decent hindquarters, moves true enough but could put a bit more effort into it.

PGD (7)

1 Cadden’s Phadante Jambalaha, liked the stamp of this fellow, absolutely full of himself & all male without exaggeration, head has length & is well proportioned with round dark eye, straight front, arch to neck, well ribbed up, good tail carriage & some rear definition, moved out as if he had places to go;
2 Talbot’s Rapanooey Moai at Leaveslake, useful sort & nothing overstated, also good for eye & expression, straight front, super neck & carriage, well ribbed with firm topline which he held on the move, gentle turn to stifle;
3 Tingey’s Dallyador Aramis.

1 Williams’ Phadante Brightonrock, liked the shape & outline of this 7½ year old, all male but not overdone, expressive head with length, excellent front assembly with forechest, well ribbed up & carried back, super topline & scored in tailset & carriage, definition to hindquarters which he uses to move out so well;
2 McCarthy’s Domdallino Je Suis Kilndandy, very cleanly constructed all through, length to head with moderate stop & proportioned muzzle, liked his straight front, arch to neck into level topline, some rear definition, moves out freely;
3 Hobbs & Whiting’s Boutonneux Baby Buco avec Rapanooey.

OD
(11,1a) Lovely class.

1 Pratt’s Ch Gwynmor Finch Hatton at Solostar, loved his shape & clean outline, certainly all male without being overdone, expressive head of length, best of front assemblies, well ribbed up & back, super topline & good for tail carriage, well modelled hindquarters with defined second thigh, this dog needs a big ring & today we had it which he used to full advantage, not surprised to learn he already has his title. CC & BOB;
2 Casey’s Ir Ch Buffrey Pop Goes The Weasel at Moyglass, lovely dog, slightly lighter built than 1 but still masculine enough, admired his clean head & expression, straight front but could still develop a little more in forechest, quite well ribbed up & uses tail well, moved out with reach & drive. RCC;
3 Whincup’s Ch Tamilanda Panther Lilly.

PB
(7)

1 Christie’s Sophtspot Glitterati, very promising young miss, lovely for type, clean cut & so well balanced, dark expressive eye, best of fronts, ribs developing & excellent topline & tailset, moves out freely using very little effort. BP;
2 Talbot’s Rapanooey Vanishing World at Leaveslake, close up here & also well put together, loved her expressive dark eye, she also has a very good front, well ribbed for age, level topline with good tail carriage, easy mover with purpose;
3 Hobbs & Whiting’s Rapanooey Shimmerglisten.

JB
(5,2)

1 Alexander’s Offordale Larissa, eyecatcher & so well balanced, feminine but lacking nothing, dark eye well placed & finish to muzzle, super front assembly & feet, ribs coming, firm topline with sensible tail carriage, well modelled hindquarters, moves out with real purpose. RCC;
2 Wilkinson’s Gwynmor High Five to Hunacres, many of the above comments could also apply here, just preferred marginally better front of 1;
3 Edens’ Dalens Calendar Girl.

YB
(6)

1 Edens’ The Ice Queen at Dalens, feminine & fairly compact, head quite well laid out but would prefer neater ears, decent front assembly down to well knuckled feet, arch to neck, well ribbed, definition to hindquarters, moved steady;
2 G High Five to H;
3 Burrows’ Elaridge Hawks Phoenix at Shacarlu.

PGB
(10)

1 Hobbs & Whiting’s Rapanooey Rhapsody, feminine & very well balanced, proportioned head with dark round eye, decent front & feet, arch to neck, well ribbed, firm topline & steady tail carriage, some definition to hindquarters, easy mover;
2 Neath-Duggan’s Buffrey Hey Diddle Diddle, ultra feminine with lovely eye & expression, straight front, clean well sprung ribs & firm loin, just enough rear definition, reasonable mover;
3 Townson & Pardoe’s Shacarlu Bumblebee at Daymadals.

LB
(7,1)

1 Christie’s Jezebel The Astonishing Sophtspot, feminine & upstanding, clean head with good expression, liked her straight front & knuckled feet, super neck & carriage, well ribbed, level topline & good tail, definition to hindquarters, easy free mover;
2 Moate’s Leiahart Honolulu Honey at Sundowndal, strongly constructed with length to head, minimal stop, decent front assembly, arch to neck, well ribbed with firm loin & super hindquarters, easy exuberant mover;
3 Dodds & Pearson’s Kelevra Classic Cliché.

OB
(9) Very interesting class.

1 Gardner’s Dvojica Black Again at Wrendragge, thought this a very neat package for the CC, she is clean cut with a balanced outline, well angulated fore & aft, arched neck into a decent front, carries a firm body & sensible tail, particularly like her hindquarters & she moves around the ring with such ease & accurate footfall, I understand this win also completes her title, congratulations;
2 Barrett’s Marricdale The Gold Digger of Dalamanti, energetic veteran who presents a tidy whole, could possibly use a little more length to head but is not out of proportion, good forequarters, retained her waistline, decent hindquarters, comes into her own in action leaving her handler chasing after her;
3 Morgan’s Winflash Olympic Star.
