BRITISH DALMATIAN CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW BITCHES 1 AUGUST 2015

So where do I start….for once I am almost at a loss for words. I had so been looking forward to this appointment first with excitement and then as the day approached with trepidation. To judge ones own breed at a club show is truly a great honour and responsibility
I cannot thank you all enough for the super entry I received, and for me this snapshot in time of the Dalmatian bitches says that the breed is in fine form. I am a great believer in that the depth of quality and the future of any breed lies with good quality bitches being bred on.
I would like to give special thanks to my ring stewards Stef Kazana and Kim Hodge and of course Elaine Tillson who kept everything running smoothly. The committee were friendly and welcoming and I shall always treasure my commemorative gift.
In many classes I so wished I had more first prize cards, and this is why I prefer the continental system of grading , as in some classes those who were down the line or unplaced would have received an excellent grading from me.

1st Gardner Dvojica Black Again at Wrendragge JW ShCM. 3 We should all be proud that we have a breed that lasts so well, the lovely ladies in both the junior and veteran classes all deserved a first prize, as do their owners who keep them in such fine condition.

1st Cuthbertson’s Ch Kalsidoni Garnet JW Sh CM a real favourite of mine awarded her cc a few years ago, and she is still in great form, most elegant bitch , so pleasing to the eye, feminine head and dark eye, sweet expression, and at 9 plus still moving out like a two year old, even decoration, balanced both front and rear, well muscled up and enjoying herself so much in the ring, so pleased that with my co judge to make her Best Veteran in Show.

3rd Richardson Maplewell Hot Fudge

Brace
4(3)

Thorner. Brace stood alone but two well matched bitches who moved in unity, most impressive handling, well done.

I was so pleased with my line up and any one of the final four Dvojica Black Again at Wrendragge, Cubalibre Follow on , Daedalus Cliff Angel and Offordale Larissa are more than worthy of winning a CC, and my final decisions came down to almost splitting hairs. What I would say is that we have something very precious in Dalmatian bitches at present, keep it , be careful where and how you breed. To me the bitches are quite outstanding, and thank you again for giving me the very great honour of judging them.

British Dalmatian Club 90th Anniversary Championship Show

Dogs

1st August 2015

I was extremely honoured to judge the Club Championship show, especially as it was our 90th Anniversary. I would like to thank my very efficient stewards, they are paramount to the running of a show, what would we do without them.
Oh dear has quality improved since I last judged, in my opinion no. Where have the correct bend of stifles gone, we are a moving breed, supposed to be capable of great endurance, long striding with a well developed 2nd thigh. Instead many have little if any angulation which results in a pitter patter action. Front movement is a problem with many toeing in, the number who track correctly can be counted on one hand. Temperament on the whole was ok, although one dog did growl at me, this cannot be tolerated in any breed let alone a Dalmatian.
Short tails, with a couple which could only be described as cork screw are slipping into the scenario, this in my view spoils the outline of the dog, light eyes were also quite prevalent. Dally rash appears to be a real problem this year, in one class all four dogs present had various stages of Dally rash.
On a positive note, I found some quality youngsters in the lower classes, which bodes well for the future, and I was pleased with my final line up, could not believe I had found similar type and size. They were excellent specimens of the breed and look forward to seeing their progression in the future.

MPD (5,1)

1. Christies Sohptspot Gold Dust, quality 7mth liver, charming personality, very much a baby, could show many of those in the middle classes how to move, good reach of neck, into well laid shoulders, level topline, with good tailset, correct width of thigh which resulted in excellent movement in profile, tracked correctly, BPIS, BPD, Best Liver dog, in the challenge for BPIS my co-judge agreed with me, although not so mature as his litter sister, his movement was more positive. One to watch for the future, the breeder must be very proud of these lovely puppies.
2. Whitings Cragvallie Chance Me, another quality puppy, dense black spotting on this 9mth male, well off for bone, darkest of eyes, kind expression, good length of neck which he uses, into well laid shoulders, another with a good width of thigh and correct rear angulation, level topline on the move, correct tailset, think these two will probably change places many times in the future.
3. Craigvallie Vinny’s Chance

PD
(4,1)

1. As above
2. Stocks Nospar’s Shaded Lanson
, coming up 12mths, liver of good colour, cobbier type than winner, excellent temperament, well schooled and attentive to his handler, not the reach and drive of my winner, although I like to see puppies chunky he was carrying a little too much weight and not in the best of jackets.
3. Dalmark The Wizard of Oz

JD
(6,1)

1. Goff-Leggetts Washakie Shoshone Chief, 13 mths, handsome quality male with dense black spotting, beautiful head with dark eyes and a melting expression, good reach of neck, which he uses, into well laid shoulders, level topline on the move and correctly carried tail, correct angulation with good width of thigh, deep brisket, moved so well in profile, tracked correctly, tight cat feet, beautifully handled and presented as expected from this exhibitor, this was the dog the judge would most like to take home, I was delighted to award him his first CC, one of many I am sure, would liked to have seen him go BIS, however my co-judge and I could not agree therefore the referee had to be called, with the final nod going to the bitch, he was therefore awarded RBIS & BOS
2. Alexanders Offordale Picasso
, 17mths, excellent quality black male, cat feet, clear black spotting, lovely expression, dark eyes, good reach of neck which he uses to advantage, well laid shoulders with level topline which he keeps on the move, another with excellent rear angulation, moves with reach and drive , super temperament, splitting hairs between these two, RCC
3. Richardsons Mapplewell Dynamite

YD
(7) 1.

Cadden’s Phadante Jambalaha JW almost 2yrs, Clear dense black spotting on pure white coat, dark eyes, head a little strong for me, good reach of neck into well laid shoulders, good depth of body, cat feet, level topline and correct tailset, he gives his handler a hard time, however once settled moves with drive, good bend of stifle and 2nd thigh, in the final cut for top honours.
2. Hopkin’s Rapanooey Rasul, totally different type, more cobby and compact, dense black spotting, good depth of body, masculine head and dark eyes, not quite the rear angulation of 1, however still moves reasonably well, cat feet, shows well and is attentive to his handler
3. Richardsons Mapplewell Dynamite

ND
(5,2)

1.As PD, Donnelly’s Tamilanda Berry Ice Lilly, nice head and expression, attractive clear black spotting on pure white coat, tail a little short with spoils outline, reasonable width of thigh, good depth of brisket, not the movement of my winner.
3. Pace’s Big Addo

GD
(4) This was a dreadful class where I seriously considered withholding the lower places, my winner was streets ahead of the rest.

1. As Junior dog
2. Stirling’s Winflash Dappled White
, small black spot, could carry more weight to advantage, movement ok, well schooled attentive to his handler, and was obviously enjoying his day out.
3. Taylor & Mackinnon’s Frankish Checkpoint Via Kingpippin

PGD
(4) This class was rife with Dally Rash in varying degrees

1. Gardinor’s Jamelsley Pyracantha At Dakata, JW black spot male, excellent make and shape, masculine head without coarseness, good length of neck, level topline on the move, correct tailset, good depth of brisket, cat feet, short listed in my final 4
2. Tingey’s Dallyador Aramis, liver boy of good colour, attractive head and expression, cat feet, correct tailset, good depth of body, is good in profile standing, although not the rear angulation I like to see, however for me did not have the drive on the move of my winner
3. Lindsey’s Cubalibre Stride on at Appeninne

MLD
(2,1)

1. Kembrey’s Dalmark The Pinot Grigio, appears small to me, however as he was the only one present difficult to assess. Good colour liver spotting, as always from this kennel. Shorter coupled than many, does not have the reach and drive I would like to see, he did have a lovely disposition and was at one with his handler.

LD (8,1)

1. Scott-Allen & Davis’s Tolutim Yaffle Dense black spotting on a pure white coat, judged this boy as a puppy and he has grown into a reasonable dog, masculine head without coarseness, level topline, with correct tailset, good depth of body, tended to toe in slightly coming towards me, movement in profile ok,
2. Williams Phadante Brightonrock, liver boy just over 7yrs, good head and expression, excellent length of neck which he uses, level topline which he keeps on the move, correct tailset, good depth of body, movement ok, BVD
3. Fellows Buffrey King of the Castle

OD
(7,2)

1. Pratts Gwynmore Finch Hatton At Solostar (Imp Ned) Beautiful clear black spotting on pure white coat, excellent head and expression with the darkest of eyes, excellent type and for me correct for size, good depth of body, masculine without coarseness, holds his topline on the move with a correct tailset, has well muscled quarters with correct 2nd thigh and good turn of stifle. Tight cat feet, does not always give of his best but today was putting his best foot forward, serious contender for the ticket, however in the challenge for me he moved slightly wide in front.
2. Baker’s Dalleaf Devils Disciple, liver boy in excellent condition, masculine head without any coarseness, good length of neck into well laid shoulders, keeping his topline on the move with good tailset, good depth of brisket, excellent muscle tone, well handled, unlucky to met 1 on such form, sure his day will come.
3. Casey’s Ir Ch Buffrey Pop Goes the Weasel At Moyglass Jun Ch

Special Memorial OD
(2)

1. Whincups Ch Tamilanda Panther Lilly JW, well known black spot champion, for me he does not have quite the rear angulation I would like, that is my own personal preference, tight cat feet, well off for bone, good depth of body, masculine head with dark eyes, he is well schooled and as always responded well to his handler.
2. Pace’s Big Addo

Special Junior VD
(3)

1. Hartley & Griffiths Ch Creaganbrec The Favourite At Miragua, I gave this young man a CC at BUBA in 2008, much the same applies now as then, balanced quality b/w, dense black spotting, lovely head and expression, dark eyes, moved well, but just seemed to lack the sparkle in the challenge for BV.
2. Tingey’s Holderness Hillbilly By Dallyador Liver boy enjoying his day out. Nearly 8 years young. Lovely clear liver spotting of good colour. Super temperament. Attractive head, good reach of neck, level topline on the move, not quite the drive of winner, however little to choose between these two. Both veterans a credit to their owners.
