British Dalmatian Club Open 2015 Judged by Dolores Precious
BRITISH DALMATIAN CLUB OPEN SHOW SATURDAY 7TH NOVEMBER 2015

Firstly I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Officers, Committee and not least the exhibitors for the warm welcome and fabulous entry at this super show. Everyone accepted with a very sporting manner my, sometimes difficult decisions. I was delighted for the Club to have received such a large entry and the atmosphere throughout the day was most convivial. Thank you also for the beautiful gift which I will treasure as a memory of a fabulous day. I really enjoyed my day as for me, there can be fewer pleasures in life, than judging our beloved breed, at an exceptionally well run show. My three stewards kept the ring running smoothly and for that and their joviality I thank them.

I found temperaments on the most part to be agreeable and the majority of coats to be in good condition with many coats being correctly short and tight. However I felt that feet have become more of a problem than when I last judged, five years ago. There were quite a few flat feet with very soft pads. I was also interested to see that some of the dogs in the higher classes were lacking muscle tone, which affected their movement.

Movement was generally acceptable but I did find that many of the exhibits lacked what the Dalmatian is known for which is a long and strong stride, with a flowing smooth gait. However, some of the dogs excelled in their movement and displayed exactly what I was looking for. It is difficult to assess a dog if it is moving too fast or indeed too slowly. A good “working trot” is perfect and shows your dog to it's best advantage.

1st , Baker's Buffrey Incognito By Dalleaf
This is a very promising puppy with dense black spotting. Flat skull with a nicely developing neck, and level back. Front and rear angulation was good on one so young especially his shoulder placement. Tail set a little high at the moment but his movement outweighed everything else. BPD
2nd Evans' Lucky Prince Of Oaks Farm At Troikadal
Another good prospect but a little shorter coupled that 1 and a little less lay of shoulder but he had a good neck into a level topline and super tight feet. Good bend of stifle and lovely decoration. Another super mover but just pipped to the post today but I am sure the roles will be reversed another time.

1st Goff-Leggett's Washakie Shoshone Chief.
Strong black spotting with a masculine but not coarse head. Dark eyes and good length of neck and strong loin. Tail carried perfectly. Perfect front and rear angulation and strong second thigh and standing on tight feet. However today he was moving a little wide in front and rear, but strode well in profile.
2nd Stocks' Nospars Shaded Lanson. Another super youngster this one a good coloured liver. Super head and skull and good eye pigment. Elegant neck into well defined withers but a slightly straighter front than 1. Level topline and good bend of stifle and standing on tight feet. Tail carriage was a little higher than 1 today but this could be the exuberance of the young male. Moved well.

Yearling Dog

1st. Alexander's Offordale Picasso.
A black with good decoration and of perfect outline. Masculine head but without a trace of coarseness holding a dark eye. Good length of neck but feel he may benefit from a pound or two off his withers. Well arched toes. Level back held on the move and correct carriage of tail. His movement back and forth is as straight as a dye and in profile his good construction shone through as he powered effortlessly round the ring, with his long front stride and driving from perfectly angulated stifle and second thigh. Beautifully balanced and on sparkling form today. He has a bright future ahead. BD BBD and BIS.
2nd. Richardson's Mapplewell Dynamite.
Another dog of correct proportions. good flat skull and expression with good reach of neck Just felt he was a bit straighter in his front than 1. Good topline and enough bend of stifle with a strong second thigh. Perfect tail set and carriage and moved well.

Good sized black with dark eyes in good head and expression and lovely spotty face. Would have preferred more angulation front and back but carried a good topline and bone and obviously does plenty of roadwork as his feet were a lovely catlike shape with firm pads.
2nd Pace's Big Addo Liver boy ,larger than 1 but nicely decorated, he was sadly missing a bit of pigment on his nose. Flat skull and beautifull broken ears. Plenty of good strong bone and level back. Tail was a little high today, he was obviously enjoying his day out.

A liver that I have previously judged and liked enormously, but felt today he did not have the drive of 1. Short coupled but well angulated front assembly. Lovely head and flat skull with good ear decoration and carriage. Another with super shape to the feet.

1st Stevenson' Macula Moonlight Mystique
What an exciting prospect this black baby is. Deepest pigmentation. Lovely feminine head and darkest of eyes. Good length to neck and level topline for one so young standing and on the move. Good bone. Front and back angulation developing correctly and fabulously catlike feet. Her balance length of stride on the move was a joy to watch.
2nd Bolt & Rowledge's Gemmont Affirmed By Fakenham. Another black girl , slightly taller than 1, but in no way too big for her age. Well shaped head and elegant neck into fairly straight back and good length of loin. Tail set and carriage was ideal. Moved very well.

Attractively decorated and showed maturity beyond her age on the move as she was very balanced due to her good bend of stifle and overall confirmation. 1st Wilkinson's Gwynmor High Five To Hunacres
This black took my eye the minute she came into the ring and did not disappoint when I went over her. Shapely, but flat skull with correct amount of stop, holding dark eye and lovely spotting on ears. Her brisket is dropping nicely as her age increases. Perfectly symmetrical and faultless front and rear assembly. Excellent tail set and carried topline and tail well on the move. It should therefore have been no surprise that when she moved it was completely effortless and truly balanced, she drove from a strong quarter but was so light on her feet. I could have watched her all day. Pushed hard for BIS but was delighted to award her BB, BBB and RBIS
2nd Thorne's Duchess Of Mohave At Castletop
Another black slightly taller and with heavier, although not unattractive, spotting. Feminine head into good length of neck and level back and correct tail. Moved well although would like to have seen her move in more of a straight line forward and back but had good length of stride in profile.

What a super class!!
1st Thorner's Tolutim Drambuie (Sh.CM, CH) Is this dog really a veteran? She powered round the ring as though she was a junior, but she kept her topline and balance throughout, making a super shape standing and on the move. A super long neck into well laid shoulders and correct bend of stifle and tight feet. Has no sign of ageing as one would expect from a well bred Dalmatian. No hesitation in awarding her BVB and BVIS
2nd Alexander's Offordale White Lady (JW, CH, Sh.CM)
I have always loved this girl but today she was up against one in top form. Not showing any signs of ageing and has kept her lovely spotting. Feminine head and expression into long elegant neck A bitch of quality with perfect topline and such a good bend of stifle. Tailset and carriage as it should be and showing her spots off today, really enjoying her day out. Movement still so true and straight.

1st Neath Duggan's Buffrey Sprig O Mint CH JW
A long time since I judged this girl and she did not disappoint today and has aged well as only a Dalmatian can! Lovely long neck and has kept good black pigmentation with no after spotting at all. Level back and a good tail, and trots round the ring with drive and using her still strong stifle. Really good feet . Well deserved winner of this class.
2nd Richardson's Mapplewell Hot Fudge A good coloured liver girl and having a great time. Unfortunately has a few signs of her age in some areas except when she moves and then you would not know her as a veteran, more like a puppy. A good front and lovely tailset.
3rd Harrison-Stratford's Acland Dark Daughter by Dalkereve
4th Wills' Dallyvista Scandalous Risk

Brace.

1st Kembrey's Brace.
Well matched pair in colour and type. Moved in complete unison one could be forgiven for thinking there was only dog in the ring.
2nd Markey's Brace. Pleasing pair to watch – obviously well trained to run together and they matched stride for stride. Very similar in the head and overall body shape.
3rd Thorner's Brace.
