DALMATIAN CLUB OF SCOTLAND- REPORT

Thank you to the officers and committee for inviting me to judge at this well organised show. Special thanks to Magarette Malholand and Keith Nathan for their kind hospitality.
My sincere thanks to everyone who entered under me, I had a lovely day. It was a great entry and so good to see so many dogs in the ring. The sun coming out was an extra bonus.
I haven’t judged for several years and it was interesting to see how the breed is progressing. We were lucky to have a good size ring so I could really assess movement.
There were some excellent dogs and bitches, mainly in the later classes, but in some of the early classes I found quality lacking.
Temperaments were on the whole good.
Too many gay tails and lack of top line, especially on the move.
Dark eyes were the exception rather than the rule, so much part of the breed standard and the unique expression of the Dalmatian.
Many exhibits looked good standing but lost out when moving, due to upright shoulders and weak hindquarters.
My top winners were true examples of the breed standard and I was delighted to see that there are breeders who continue to produce quality and type, long may they prosper.
