BUBA 2022 Judged by Hazel Chance
I would like to extend my thanks to the committee for the opportunity of judging at the 50th anniversary of BUBA, it was indeed a privilege, also to my two hard working stewards John and John for keeping this long day running smoothly. My biggest thanks goes to everyone who entered their beautiful Dalmatians on the day it filled my heart with joy.

The Dalmatian has changed a lot over the years which can make it quite difficult now to keep to a type when judging. Most of the exhibits were delivered immaculate; however there were many out of coat, dirty and several had red feet which was distracting on the day. Tails remain an issue but this is something that we are all reading about in judge’s critiques on a regular basis now and all need to be aware of.

On the whole I was very pleased with my winners and in a few of the classes the placements were gained for their movement on the day. Many have good drive and stride but I noticed a lot that were too close behind and lacked clear parallel movement which influenced many of my decisions. We all know how easy it is to judge from the ring side but once we step into the ring we can see dogs that we may have favoured before in a different light. It is great to see our Dalmatian growing in popularity when it comes to showing and how many new people are coming into our breed as we lose so many of the mentors and kennels we have learnt from. There are many considerations to be made before we introduce our dogs into the ring as we continue to learn/strive to improve our breeding to meet the standard as close as possible.

MPD (3)
This was one of my favourite classes of the day as all of these young males showed many qualities in ones so young and I look forward to watching their careers. They are all of a similar size as some of the puppies have been on the larger side lately.
1. Tavill. Puntinato Ballante Virtual Vision Vortex (BEL IMP) TAF. (B) This boy caught my eye as he came into the ring with his happy expression and joy in life. Nice overall shape and style, evenly marked with dark pigmentation. Correct placing of shoulders coming from a long smooth neck. Correct ear set and dark eye. Good length of body with well-placed croup and tail set. Good angulation in his hind quarters and tight feet. He moved with ease around the ring which won him the class today and I was happy to give him BPIB.
2. Todhunter & Robinson. Offerdale Bellmont.
(L) Another boy of superb quality who I can imagine will do very well in the ring. Beautiful masculine head with good pigmentation and correct eye colour. Deep chest and well sprung ribs for one so young, you can already see how this dog will mature. Good topline and tail set, leading down to good angulated hindquarters. Moved effortless around the ring but didn’t move away as well as 1 today.
3. Richards. Mediolanum Winterfell (IMP SRB).

1. Richards. Mediolanum Winterfell (IMP SRB). (B) Although the youngest in the class it was his to win as I had loved him in the earlier class. Another well-constructed puppy with shining qualities. Handsome head with a nice eye and expression. Well placed shoulders and good length of body leading onto a correct tail set. 2nd thigh developing nicely and well angulated on the rear. Another that floated around the ring with ease and good length of stride.
2. Pilgrim Nospar’s Drambuie. (L) More mature puppy in the class and of nice quality. Evenly spotted with good pigmentation and rich colouring. Sweet expression when he looks at you and appears to want to please. Clean long neck and good deep chest with ample spring of rib. Good angulation and moved out with drive and determination.
3. Growcott-Jones. Rodengrove Rudolph.

1. Christie. Sophtspot Perfect Storm. (B) Comes across as a sweet boy who wants to please. Not as well developed as some of the others in the class but still displays several good qualities of the breed. Nice evenly spotted on a clear white coat and in excellent condition. Cat like feet and strong in pastern which makes him hold his own on the move. Moved out well and with drive.
2. Page & Howell. Olilou Heavenly Hamilton By Winflash. NAF TAF. (B). Initially this boy did not appear happy but improved greatly with a change of handler. Very different type to 1. Well developed with good bone and construction. Nice clean head and in good proportion to his body. Solid topline and correct angulation front and back. Moved out with drive and determination.
3. Quigley. Dalkiss Paperback Writer.

1. Sims. Koroyza Hrafna Floki For Snowspeeder. (B) This boy was one of the happiest of the day with the attitude of look at me. Nice masculine head with correct ear set that he uses to his advantage. Good length of clean neck with well-placed shoulders and deep chest. Correct tail set with just enough turn of croup. Good angulation and turn of stifle. He continued to enjoy himself while he took his handler around the ring with drive.
2. Rosser. Dalstorm Incan Warrior. (B) This dog was late to the ring and unfortunately this showed today. Overall a nice looking dog again very different to 1 with a stronger physic. Good masculine head with correct shoulder and upper arm placings but would have preferred more length to his neck. Moved out as though he meant it and glided around the ring as though it was nothing to him.
3. Quigley. Dalkiss Paperback Writer.

1. Howard. Decoda’s CrackerJack. (L). Nice dog but doesn’t want to get any bigger as everything is where it should be now. Strong masculine head but well-shaped and good ear set, would prefer a slightly darker eye but should come with being a liver. Well decorated with good colouring and a more traditional liver marking. Good adulations front and back. His perfect movement won him his class today.
2. Rosser. Dalstorm Incan Warrior.
3. Porter. Cotterspot Sir Wensleydale

1. Wright. Millbelle Crazy horse. (B) CC and RBIB. I was happy to award these to this boy. One I can honestly say I haven’t take much interest in from the side of the ring but found I couldn’t give this award to anyone else on the day. He is typical to this kennel and could never be denied. Evenly spaced dark spotting on a white coat. Clean strong head with sufficient stop and well broken ears. Good length of clean neck leading into correct placed shoulders and upper arm. Deep chest and well sprung rib which will hold him well if he were to be a working carriage dog. One of the straightest toplines of the day which was held on the move. Correct tail set, well developed 2nd thigh with just enough angulation in his hindquarters. His winning quality is his movement that just finishes this dog off to a T. This boy has one of the longest strides moving with reach and drive. He was a pleasure to watch and I could find no excuse not to award him the highest honours.
2. Robbins & Hensman. Jasquarella Edge of Winter. (B) Nice outline to this boy with everything where it should be. Smart masculine head with correct ear set that framed his face well. Evenly spotted on a clean white coat all of which shine with condition. Nothing over exaggerated so very much to like about this dog, unlucky to come up against 1 today as many of his qualities are echoed in this boy. Beautiful cat like feet which the breed is losing somewhat. Strong in pastern and good angulation. Moved out with determination and drive.
3. Burke. Hafwenna Painted Black.

1. Hobbs & Whiting. Rapanooey Ranunculus. (L). Lovely type what a shame he does not appear to like the show ring as he has so many good qualities to like about him. Beautiful head with the kindest expression as though to say please love me. Nicely marked with a good liver colouring. Clean neck and correct shoulder/upper arm travelling down to strong pasterns and cat like feet. Good depth of chest and spring of rib leading onto a well-developed body and 2nd thigh. Correct tail set but only uses this to his advantage when on the move, where he glides around the ring with elegance and drive. I am sure he will get there.
2. Chattaway. Buzzbrook Spellbreaker. (B) These are two very different types to be in against each other. This boy is stronger in the head and more mature in the body meaning he is more compact than 1. Shown in beautiful condition and a gleaming white coat. Well placed shoulders and another strong on the pastern with lovely feet. Correct angulation and moved out well.

LD. (13,3)
1. Croft. Koroyza Viking Voyager. (L) I have admired this dog from the ring side since I first saw him as a puppy and wasn’t disappointed today. Nice head with a kind expression and enjoying his time in the ring while holding his presence. Another compact dog with good proportions front and back. Good top line and tail carriage. Drives with passion and determination with a good long length of stride. His time will come.
2. Green & Sears. Alphadal Aint Misbehaving At Judally JW. (L) Another quality liver that I have looked forward to going over for a few years now. Larger boy than 1 but everything to love about him. Beautiful clean head and dark eye. Moved with good stride and drive floating around the ring. Lovely outline but was carrying too much weight today to get him the win.
3. Johnson. Dvojica Evergreen.

1. Emmett & Simons. Ch. Ellemstra Against All Odds JW. (B) This boy did well to win this class as it was the strongest dog class of the day, radiating quality throughout. Love his plain head like his dams with the darkest eye framed with pigmentation. Clean lipped and elegant neck leading onto correct shoulder and upper arm placing, strong pasterns and cat feet. Correct length in body and made as though he could go all day if required to do so. He moved like a dream with the most parallel movement in the class which was what won him his place.
2. Small. Ir Ch. Alioth Moonlight Surprise. (L) Good quality liver boy with the sweetest face and expression and is as one with his handler. Love his outline and construction with everything where it should be. Well matured and toned to perfection he was unlucky to meet 1 today as his movement is his highest quality but lacked the determination of 1.
3. Locke-Mcfadzean. Alphadirato Rising Star Over Sassafras (IMP EST).

1. Neath-Duggan & Baker. Ch Buffery Incognito By Dalleaf JW. (B). How time has flown to now find this stunning dog in Veteran. This boy has been the one to beat for some time now and continues to hold his own being in his prime now. Beautiful clean head with perfectly held ears just finishing his face off. Beautiful outline and overall shape which makes him pop in any line up. Top quality show condition and moves as one with his owner. I am sure his winning streak with continue for some time yet.
2. Christie. Ch. Sophspot Gold Dust JW. (L) Another boy that has done a lot of winning and being shown in better coat condition today. Nice masculine head, dark amber eye and correct ear set. Another stunning outline and slightly better rear angulation than one but didn’t move out as well today.
3. Baker. Dalmaigheo Love Is The Drug Ir Jr. Ch.

1. Crookes. Dalberry The Starburst (L) I was happy to finally have the opportunity to go over this boy. What a handsome well put together honest Dalmatian and shown to perfection. I like everything about him as everything in is proportion and where it should be. He has the kindest face which exuberates love for his handler and clearly wants to please at all times. Beautiful shape and outline. Moved out beautifully and was happy to award him the RDCC today.
. Smith. Rapanooey Sugar Donut. (B) I love this boy as well displaying so many qualities of the breed just unlucky that he met 1 today. Bigger overall type than one but remains elegant with it. Nice masculine head, good pigmentation and decorated on a pure white coat. He still has some maturing to do as he is still a youngster which showed today but everything is correct and in place for his age. Moved out well, one to watch for the future.
3. Marley & Libbey. Bellili’s D’Amore De Loin ShCM ShCEx.

1. Alexander. Offerdale Santtini. (B) What a pretty little girl showing all the qualities already of this kennel. Beautifully decorated on a clean white coat. Sweet face and expression but appeared somewhat overawed by the full experience which stopped her using her ears to her advantage today. Lovely front and depth of chest already in one so young and again these cat like feet that is missing so much in our breed now. Good bone and substance. Tail set correctly on a powerful behind that moved her around the ring. Defiantly one to watch for the future and I look forward to seeing her mature.
2. Jenkins & Ridgeway. Luccombe Strawberry Ripple. (L) Beautiful liver girl with a feminine head and sweet expression, distracted at times by what was going on behind her. Good topline and correct tail set which she held when on the move. Nice cat like feet with good angulation. Another to keep an eye on.
PB (3,1)

1. Stocks. Nospar’s Gin and Tonic. (L) Quality young bitch and still very much a puppy which is nice to see as so many are mature too soon in the younger classes. Rich liver colour and eye colouring intent on her handler. Pretty face with good proportions and eye set. Good bone and construction. Good shoulder angulation coming from a long clean neck. Ample lung room and deep chest. Good length to body and correct tail set. Liked her on the moved and will improve once she settles a bit.
2. Whincup. Tamilanda Instant Star. (B) This girl reminds me of her dam who I have always liked. True type to this established kennel with a beautiful outline when standing and on the move. Pretty face with the darkest eye and pigmentation. Decoration well distributed on a clean white coat. Good angulation to front and back with a good turn to her stifle. Didn’t move as well as 1. On the day.

JB (10, 2)
1. Page. Winflash Chanel Paris. (B) This girl makes her presence known in the ring and works well with her handler. Good pigmentation and clean white coat. Stronger head then I would normally go for in a bitch but you can melt in those eyes. Long reach of neck, deep chest and well sprung rib. I love this girls topline leading straight on to her tail carriage. Powerful behind with good turn of stifle and well down on her hocks. Needs to keep more control when on the move but moved with immense drive and reach, happy to award her the RBCC today.
2. Richards & Davies. Hafwenne Hey Jude. (L) I like this bitch very much and a very honest Dalmatian in the making. Beautiful well spotted head of a rich dark liver framed with a correct ear set that she uses to her advantage. Long reach of neck and well developed chest with ample lung room. Clean topline, correct tail set and nice long tail reaching well done on her hocks. Good angulation; handler needs to be aware of not over stretching her. Moves out well on the day
3. Vockings. Bellehoud Tipple At Portunes.

1. Collier. Kallierbelle Ceithir. (B) Not to be distracted by the spotting this girl displays a lot of top qualities. There is no denying her overall elegant shape and construction. Plain in the face but lovely broken ears that we don’t see as often now. Clean reach of neck and well placed shoulders. Ample spring of rib and nice length to her body correct tail set and holds this to her advantage. Correct angulation and cat like feet. Moved out with the same elegance and powerful drive and reach.
2. Rose. Dalpetro Dotty JW. (B) On another day this girl would have won this class however the change of handler did not work to her advantage today. Smaller compact construction than 1. Good dark pigmentation and eye colouring with a kind expression but with a note of mischief. Long reach of neck and well up on her pasterns with smart feet. Smaller in body but all in proportion. Just was too erratic on the move today.
3. Chattawy. Buzzbrook Lily of The Valley.

1. Locke-Mcfadzean. Alphadirato Rising Star Over Sassafras (IMP USA) (L) This girl is very much my type in the breed and eye catching when you see her. Lovely feminine well spotted head with a loving expression. Good reach of neck with well laid back shoulders and strong forearm. Deep chested and nice topline with just enough slope to croup for her tail carriage. Well angulated and moved out with a goo reach and drive. Seemed to lose the correctness of her movement in the line up which stopped her going any further.
2. Vockings. Bellehoud Tipple At Portunes. (L) This girl is maturing nicely and enjoying herself more in the ring each time I see her. She has a beautiful shaped head and expression. Nice liver colouring to her spots and distributed nicely. Nice shape and outline but can lose this sometimes when she is standing. Moved out well. Looking forward to see this one when she is more mature.
3. Chattawy. Buzzbrook Lily of The Valley.

1. Collier. Kallierbelle Bluebelle. (B). Nice tidy bitch with a beautiful clean head and dark eye. Long clean neck joining on to a correct placed shoulder and upper arm Beautiful feet and well-manicured nails. Good spring of rib and developed muscles in good proportion to keep her femininity intact. Moved out with long reach and stride.
2. Scott-Allen & Davis. Dallydyl Code Breaker. (L) Quality liver bitch but lacking the ring presence of 1 today. Kind face and the best liver colouring of the day. Good overall size, well placed shoulder, would prefer more angulation to her rear. Has a gracefulness to her movement with plenty of reach.
3. Goodswen. Alphadal’s Aint She A Star.

1. Healey & Wheaton. Hebemor Ruby Tiger From Acinonyx JW. (L) Smart girl with another lovely head and well placed ears. Good pigmentation on a clean coat. Caught my attention very early on in the class and was happy to award her the 1st today. Nice clean shape and correctness to breed standard. Moved a correct pace with the handler.
2. Alcock. Kayjule Amber Lady At Dalspartan. (L) Another lovely quality liver and very similar to the winner of the class which made my decision today harder as I found I was torn between the two. Very pretty head and lovely colour eye. Good chest and well placed shoulders. Good length of body and tuck up. On the day I just preferred the movement of 1.
3. Finch & Bonner. Sophtspot Kalamity Jane With Dalticino.

(18,3)
1. Finlay. Dvojica Excuse My French At Dalfin. JW (B) No mistaking which kennel this girl originates from. This was a strong class for her to take top spot today. Beautiful pigmentation on the whitest coat and in beautiful show condition. Flawless outline and presence in the ring. Beautiful feminine head framed by correct ear set and carriage with eyes that you can get lost in. Clean long neck and well placed shoulders leading onto cat like feet. Well bodied and shown at just the correct weight which emphasises everything that the breed needs to be for the carriage. Good turn of stifle and well placed hocks. An absolute picture when standing. Moved with correctness and drive, unfortunately today was just not her day in the line-up but this will change on another day I’m sure.
2. Howard Riddle. Shydally Star Attraction. (B) Very similar type to 1. Well-constructed bitch with a smart outline. Nice head and head with style on a neck with ample reach. Good depth of chest and spring of rib giving plenty of expanse on the move like 1 that bodes well for their working role. Good height at withers and length to body. Well-developed 2nd thigh and behind that powers her around the ring. Good reach in forearm and moved to her advantage today.
3. Sampson. Tyrodal Seven of Nine At Dalstorm.

OB
(15, 1)
1. Hobbs & Whiting. Sophtspot Knockout At Rapanooey. (B). BOB & BCC. This may have been one of my hardest decisions to make class wise as 1 & 2 are of such high qualities in the breed. Well broken ears and correct carriage and positioning. Clear stop and correct length of muzzle, dark eye, sweet trusting expression and with one with her handler. Clean reach of neck leading to correct shoulder placing and depth to chest held correctly at the elbows. Ample air room for her lung capacity and good length of body. Correct tail set and carriage, well defined 2nd thigh. Good turn of stifle and correct angulation which just finishes her off to near perfection. Nice feet front and back but what won her the top honours was her movement. She glided around the ring with full reach and drive with the best parallel movement of the day, there wasn’t another one today to beat her. I was happy to later find out that this was her crowning CC. Congratulations to all involved in the production of this very classy Dalmatian.
2. White. Ch. Sophtpot La De Da At Belsmard ShCEx. (B) I have loved this girl from the ring side since she was a puppy and today was no exception, pleased to see she was made up this year as well. Most of her qualities are echoed from the first place although her decoration is outstanding. I love her overall shape and size as many of the breed are becoming oversized. Pretty feminine head and eyes only for her handler framed by well-placed ears. Coat and body is superb condition, so well-toned. Well laid back shoulders and upper arm. Good angulation front and back with just enough tuck up. Powerful loins and sailed around the ring. Like said a hard decision but on the day movement of 1 finalised it for me when moved together.
3. Baker. Mapplewell Just My Style At Dalmaigheo.

VB
(11, 1)
1. Croft. Ch. Kalokaire’s Barberella From Koroyza (L) I remember when the veteran placings usually went to the older ones in the class but times have changed and many veterans are now in their prime in this class, so today was no exception with both the veteran winners. I was happy to give this lovely girl BV today. Dark liver with correct pigmentation and amber eyes in keeping with the breed standard. I liked the size of this girl who has everything in the right place. Good bone and visible strength in all limbs which hold her with pride. Lovely feet and strength to pastern. Good angulation front and back without exaggeration. Just enough croup into a lower set tail carriage while remaining correct. Moved with determination around the ring, very much my type and easy to see how she got her title.
2. Morgan. Winflash Olympic Star. JW ShCM (B) Where has the time gone as I remember this girl as a stunning puppy and never really understood why she wasn’t made up. Showing her age more now as expected but still enjoying her time in the ring. Kind expression and pleasing face. Clean neck moving into well-place shoulders and deep chest with ample spring of rib. Top line remains intact for a girl of this age which continues when on the move which she still has the drive and power for supporting her good construction.
3. Whincup. Ch. Tamilanda Pick-A-Lilly JW.

1. Derrick & Ryan. Kalokaire’s Hocus Pocus. (L) This girl has lot to like about her and shown to perfection and advantage. Lovely colour liver spots but unfortunately her window is distracting for a spotted breed. Clear outline, what you see is what you get with this girl, holds her top line lovely when on the move and drives from behind.
2. Bryder. Diocletian Amoret. (L) Plain but pretty face with super broken ears. Kind expression and eye. Good reach of neck down to deep chest to elbow and spring of rib. Good rump and tail set which help the drive around the ring. Nicely decorated.
3. Quigley. Malbreow Twinkling Star.
