British Dalmatian Club Championship 2011 Judged by Ann Dandy & Mrs Julia Swinburn
I would like to thank The British Dalmatian Club and its members for the invitation to judge dogs at their Championship show. I enjoyed my day immensely and it was a privilege to go over all of your dogs. My overall impression was how much the quality of the males had improved since I last judged the breed, and I was delighted with my final line-up. There were some very promising youngsters in the ring and I feel confident that many of them will go on to fulfil their potential and I wish them well. Temperaments were uniformly sound which is of prime importance in any breed. Thank you to my two ring stewards for their competent assistance.

Bitches
An extreme honour to judge bitches at this premier show and what a super time I had amongst such enthusiasts of the breed. Having been in the breed for over 50 glorious years it was most interesting to be in the centre of the ring again. Sadly I was disappointed in many of the fronts, too narrow a chest and far too loose in action and the other thing lacking in many was some forward drive over the ground and rotation of hocks with propulsion. I was pleased with my final line up in that they were all capable of a good day’s activity and happy and outgoing in attitude with so many waging tails. In many classes blacks took precedence as many livers were of two distinct tones, yes I know they like sunbathing and many are out of coat but the contrast in some coats was too extreme. Most were well presented which was appreciated and I found very little Dally rash in evidence. Thank you all for the pleasure of handling some happy girls.

Minor Puppy Bitch (4.1)
1. CHRISTIE’S SOPHTSPOT CHA CHA CHA
Attractive outgoing youngster with dense pigmentation, bone in proportion to size, clean neck, covered the ground but unfortunately her front action was very loose and as a running dog she would be unable to sustain that action for any length of time. Well ribbed, in firm condition and correct angulations, beautiful dark eyes, would like her to use her ears more to complete the picture.
2. TOWNSON’S SHACARLU BUMBLEBEE This extrovert lady had clarity in ground coat colour, nice head & expression, adequate chest room, firm top line through to her non stop tail wagging. Nice round bone, deep chest with elbows well in. Moved a touch close behind today but she was balanced.
3. ROSE’S CANIDALS BORN FREE

Puppy Bitch [2.0]
1. STEVENSON’S DALKEREVE DIVINE DECISION FOR MACULA
Generally nice size for age and in proportion, good body shape, clean neck lines through to her adequate shoulder lay, coat a touch on the blow but of the correct texture. Depth in ribbing, nice loin and well positioned hocks which aided drive sadly missing in quite a few today, very balanced on the move which won her the class. Unfortunately her hare feet are certainly not her fortune and difficult to get past.
2. SOPHTSPOT CHA CHA CHA First in previous class.

Junior Bitch [13.2]
1 ALEXANDER’S OFFORDALE SAPPHIRE
A bitch in sound muscular condition, good width to thigh which allowed her to drive using her hocks and following through with her feet. Sound in chest with good sternum, well ribbed, tight elbows and cat feet, good round bone in proportion to size. Nice size and no exaggeration in any department. Proportionate in head, would benefit from using her ears more to complete the picture, whitest of coats with even spotting of good sizes correct length to tail and well set on & carried correctly when gaiting. Dark eye, clean neck with nice reach shown to advantage when handler not standing up too close to her front, genuine. Best black, CC & Res BIS
2 ADDERLEY’S BUFFREY MAY QUEEN AT LEIAHART
Heavier cast to first so lost in overall femininity but straight front giving good forward action with propulsion in drive behind, tight elbows. Fell away a little over her croup and some ticking through her spots, however very genuine in most other attributes, stood four square deep chest, well sprung ribs and hocks correct in angulations, dark eye, not in best jacket but well presented and she had an outgoing personality.
3 COBB-McGILL’S KALOKAIRIES EYE CANDY

Yearling Bitch [6.1]
1 GUILFOYLE’S DALPETRO DUTCHESS TO HUNTERSWOOD
Another black elegant lady, balanced and true mover just needs more forward action which is where a touch more speed would help. Well laid shoulders, nice head & expression, super round bone down to tight feet. Well ribbed, firm top line and condition. Clean coat well presented and in hard bodily condition.
2 KALOKAIRIES EYE CANDY This lady had the darkest of pigmentations although coat was a little thin obviously changing, correct size and beautiful expression with well set ears which she used to advantage. Another in excellent condition and she certainly strode round the ring, just inclined to stand overreached which sloped her back away. She was also a little down on her pasterns but one who could not be ignored for personality. Good chest, dark eye, clean reach to neck and well laid shoulders.
3. McMANUS’S BOSCHENDAL LADY IN RED

Novice Bitch
1 DALKEREVE DIVINE DECISION FOR MACULA
Repeat from puppy
2 DAVIES & COWTON’S PHANDANTE SWEET PAINTED LADY Certainly of a sound mould, nice size, good head clean muzzle, eyes could be darker but alert expression, clean neck lines into well laid shoulders, firm top line, symmetrical, deep ribbing, clear coat with uniform spotting, good disposition she covered the ground with an even stride but would have benefited with a little more forward propulsion through a touch more speed.
3 SOPHTSPOT CHA CHA CHA

Graduate Bitch [5.1]
1 DALPETRO DUTCHESS TO HUNTERSWOOD
Repeat of YB.
2. KALOKAIRIES EYE CANDY 2nd in YB
3. BOSCHENDAL LADY IN RED

Post Graduate Bitch [9.1]
1. HOBBS & WHITING’S WINFLASH LOOPY LOO
Well handled black lady, attractive proportionate head, close lips, well set & used ears, clean neck with length into correct shoulders, needs watching on standing as she was inclined to come close in front but adequate chest room. Round bone through and nice feet, good deep ribbing and strong loin which allowed her to move forwards with a relaxed and positive action. Correct texture to coat and nice muscle tone through to second thigh. Angulations all correct and nice tail set.
2. RUSSELL’S DALMARK THE SANDPIPER AT DALYNRICS Despite her handlers problem of lack of attention by this attractive liver lady, when she did apply herself moved so very balanced and covered the ground with a forward flowing action. Attractive elegant head correct clean eye and nicely broken ears. One liver who was uniform in colour and well presented with sound deep ribbing and ample chest room, firm top line. Her tail was of the correct length, nails could be shorter and a touch less weight over her loin would complete the picture but feminine through & through.
3. WILLIAM’S PHANDANTE TAKE A CHANCE ON ME

Minor Limit Bitch [2]
1 GOFF-LEGGETT’S MULLABUOY MISS CHIEF OF WHASHAKIE JW
Sophisticated black lady full of poise and attitude. Sound in bone, of correct size and exhibiting quality attributes throughout. Super round bone, tight feet, dense pigmented spots of good size and range on a well presented smooth ground coat. Attractive proportionate head, nice ear set clean neck, firm deep ribbing through to a strong loin. Inclined to stand a touch overreached which spoilt her outline but when she did apply herself had correct bend in stifle with super width over her thigh that gave power to her forward balanced movement. Res CC

2. SMALLWOOD’S LASCELLES LADY MARMALADE
Quality liver lady who was evenly spotted, clean lines throughout, firm top line, well muscled and good angulations, she gaited with an even stride both fore and aft. Good chest, deep ribbing and nice feet. She was just a touch down in pastern but shown to advantage and responded well. Best Liver bitch.

Limit Bitch 10]
1 SMITH’S TAMILANDA PRETTY IN PINK JW ShCM
Active lady in hard condition, super head and expression with her dark eyes & nicely broken spotted ears. Nice size clean neck down to good chest & ribs with a firm top line she gaited with exuberance, good second thigh and muscle tone. Nice set to tail and one with spots on, she was inclined to stand overreached in front like a rocking horse sometimes which spoilt her outline.
2. SCOTT-ALLEN & DAVIS’S TOLUTIM ZAFFRE A lovely quality bitch in most departments, firm, active, balanced and a sound personality, proportionate head, dark eye, well set on ears good reach to neck into excellent shoulders with tight elbows. Harmonious round bone throughout one who moved with poise and balance. Correct size, firm body depth of brisket and strong loin. Just a little loose throat skin spoilt the outline.
3. SAUNDERS’S CAPRILLI’S GENUINE GIFT TO DALLYDYL

Open Bitch [8.3]
1 CH ALEXANDER’S OFFORDALE WHITE LADY ShCM JW
Black lady with many qualities on her anatomically correct body, firm top line, good chest & ribbing through to a strong loin which gave a sound top line, clarity of colour throughout, attractive head, clean muzzle well set ears, good reach of neck into well angulated shoulders, nice round bone and just enough spring in pastern through to her cat feet. She moved with effortless action both fore & aft covering the ground. In the challenge she lost out to her daughter who exhibited an improved action. Nevertheless a happy outgoing tail wagging lady
2. WINCUP’S TAMILANDA HOT PINK Liver lady who had many sound attributes to add to her happy disposition, nice size, in firm condition, excellent proportionate bone throughout, clean neck into strong shoulders, good chest & ribbing. She moved well over the ground and rotated her hocks. In her exuberance she was inclined to over reach in front when standing but her elbows were well set. In firm muscular condition with a nice width over thigh.
3. SMALLWOOD’S CH MAPPLEDOWN DANCING QUEEN OF LASCELLES

Special OpenBitch [6.1]
1. WINCUP’S TAMILANDA LILLY THE PINK JW ShCM
Correct make & shape, good depth of brisket up into a strong loin. Elegant head dark eye alert expression, with well set ears. Clear even spotting on her tight jacket. Firm muscles throughout, nice gluteus maximus and angulations in rear which allowed her to drive without exaggeration when she did settle.
2. NEATH-DUGGAN’S CH BUFFREY SPRIG OF MINT JW A black who exhibited quality throughout, one who went forward with a clean effortless action and had drive from her excellent rear. Attractive head, well positioned ears, long elegant neck into well laid shoulders sound chest and ribbing longer cast that winner. Good bone down to cat feet which unfortunately were inclined to pin in.
3. LEWIS’S HUNTERSWOOD RAZZMATAZZ JW ShCM

Special Junior Veteran Bitch [10.2]
1.WILLIAM’S PHANDANTE BOSSANOVA BABY
Dense black pigmentation, one who was on her toes and out to show us all a thing or two, in sound muscular condition, good chest through to sound ribbing and strong loin. Lovely attractive expression, sadly some ticking in her coat did not help the overall picture but her soundness took her through. Pocket power machine on the move.
2. ROACH’S CH HEBE ALEATORY IN HOLDERNESS JW ShCM Elegant black lady who was so correct in her action, super bone, good chest tight feet and firm top line with correct hock placement. Clear coat nice display in spotting and of a good texture she just needed a little more pace in her movement to finish the picture.
3. ADDERLEY’S PHANDANTE FOLLOW THAT DREAM ShCM

Special Senior Veteran Bitch [4.1]
1 LEWIS’S CH HUNTERSWOOD TITTLE TATTLE JW
A black lady in hard condition throughout. Good head well set ears, clean reach of neck into sound shoulders, round bone down to tight feet and ample chest room. Very balanced action but I felt would have benefitted from a little more pace in order to show her full potential. Calm disposition and totally in command. Good pigmentation. Best Veteran in show.
2. SCOTT-ALLEN & DAVIS’S OLBERO OLYMPIC ROSE JW
Another genuine lady who has many quality attributes, balanced head, dark eye well set & used ears, ample chest room, well ribbed, strong loin, firm top line good angulations, beautifully balance gait with excellent drive she could show some youngsters a thing or two. Feet not as tight as first and a touch throaty and unfortunately her jacket was not in the best of orders today but she was overall sound.
3. RUSSELL’S BRYEDAL MAYERLYING AT DALYNRICS

BRACE: 1. NEATH-DUGGEN’S
pair of black bitches who went round the ring totally in unison, quality picture together.
2. TINGEY’S great pair of livers a picture to watch and see them move together.
3. SMALLWOOD’S pair of livers.

Junior Handling
Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at this years show. Generally I was un-impressed with the standard of todays handlers. So many basic errors and not one correct triangle. The technicality was there but the execution was poor.

6-11years
1.Jaideen Cottee
– I requested a triangle and go a reserve triangle, also sloppy leads distract from the overall performance, so tidy up the lead control please. Jaideen was very conscious that she was the only handler present in this class but she needs to concentrate more because with time and guidance she should have a great future. Lost out to BJH on experience and finish.

12-16 years
1.Catherine Hobbs
– Although I got an incorrect triangle the triangle she did perform gave me the cleanest and sharpest angles of the day. Performed a correct T with the finish I required. Clean bite presentation and a worthy winner of BJH as her presentation had that little bit of an edge I was looking for.
2.Billie Cottee – The triangle was slightly more what I was looking for positioning wise but had very rounded corners, correct T although again rounded. Clear bite presentation.
